xbox Series X – Bethesda Could Have A New Studio Dedicated to Remakes and Remasters
A new rumor making the rounds online suggests that Bethesda could be putting together a new studio dedicated to remakes and remasters.
Bethesda has built up quite the impressive library of video games over the decades, and luckily many of its best games are regularly available on modern platforms. However, there are some older Bethesda titles that could use a touch-up, leading to fan demand to see these classic games remade. Bethesda Game Studios itself is busy with Starfield and The Elder Scrolls 6, but a new rumor claims that the company could very well have a new studio in the works that would be focused on remastering and remaking its older games.
This rumor comes from Skullzi, who is a YouTuber known for their Bethesda coverage. Apparently Skullzi “heard a rumor” that Bethesda is putting together a new studio that will focus on making remasters or remakes. Skullzi said that they’ve heard this rumor “a couple times now,” but stressed that this information has not been verified. They also erroneously believed that this new studio would be called Artifact, but later found out that Artifact is handling a documentary on Skyrim‘s 10th anniversary.
Obviously fans should take this information with a massive grain of salt, but if there’s any truth to it, we may find out sooner rather than later. Skullzi posits that they “guess” that the announcement of this new Bethesda studio would take place at QuakeCon 2021 (scheduled for August 19) or at E3 2022.
Remember: THIS IS A RUMOR. I do not know if this is true. I just heard it from a couple random but unrelated places so makes me wonder if there is something to it.

Update: So Artifact is not the name of the potential studio in question, but instead Artifact is doing a doc on Skyrim’s 10th Anniversary. However I have heard from a couple people mentioning this new BGS studio and even had people ask me about what I know, so we will see!

While there’s no concrete evidence to back these claims, the response to the rumor shows that there is clearly an appetite for classic Bethesda games to get remasters and remakes. If nothing else, these kinds of projects could help fill the gaps while fans wait for new entries from the main Bethesda studio; for instance, with The Elder Scrolls 6 release date years away, it could be advantageous to release a Morrowind or Oblivion remaster to keep fans busy in the meantime.
Bethesda creating a studio dedicated to remakes and remasters would also be huge for Xbox Game Pass. Microsoft’s acquisition of Bethesda was largely done to secure content for Xbox Game Pass, and while new Bethesda games will be huge for the service, classic titles would undoubtedly help drive subscriptions as well. The Xbox Series X backward compatibility ensures that many classic Bethesda games are readily available on Game Pass already, but without some modern bells and whistles that would generate more excitement.
Fans should keep their expectations in check when they tune in to the digital QuakeCon event on August 19.
